For those of you who ride motorcycles while wearing leathers, you know the problem I'm talking about. Motorcycle leathers bought "off the peg" can be very uncomfortable, usually too tight and stretching them isn't the solution. Let's face it, leathers are the best protection you can have if you're riding a motorcycle, specially a sportsbike. Going around curves with your knee down, then falling off your motorcycle and sliding over concrete or tarmac with jeans is a no-no. Leather is the best solution. But leather suits are tight, and since each body is different, buying "off-the-peg" is not going to make your life easier. But unless your name is Rossi, Pedrosa, Lorenzo or Stoner, you're not going to get a tailor-made leather suit given to you. You'll need to pay for it, and you'll need to pay big bucks. But it doesn't need to be so. A company in the UK produces high-end leather suits, tailor-made for a reasonable price. I did say "reasonable", since leather suits are expensive, and tailoring them will make it even more expensive. But compared with big names, they are a lot cheaper.
The company, Halo Leathers , makes different model leather suits. Their leathers are using the best possible cow leather (as their documentation says, fat cows that are not enclosed by barb-wire), carbon, liquid armor and Kevlar. So you get ultra resistant suits that are not heavy, typically 4.2 - 4.3 kilos (9.25 - 9.50 pounds). You can buy a standard suit, off-the-peg, starting at UK£699 (US$1114 or €760). But here's the interesting bit. You can get the suit tailor-made. Fill in a form, including some 21 measure points (you can do most yourself, but you will need some help in measuring parts of your body), and send the form to Halo. Some 4 weeks later, you'll receive your own personalized leather suit. The tailoring should add UK£130 (US$207 or €141) to the price of the standard suit, so it's not bad. You'll be paying that money to make the suit fit comfortably and snug. They even have a free alteration service in case you're not happy with the result. What's more, you can customize the "decorations" of the suit. You can place logos etc on the suit. There's a portion on their website that allows you to design your own suit, but unfortunately when I was looking, it was not working. But now you can have your own tailor-made leather racing suit, complete with logos, just like the big boys..... how cool is that? Click here to access their site
