For those of you who have been following this site (and others), you'll have seen that the UK government issues through a variety of their agencies great safety campaigns for motorcycles. TV ads and billboards are second to none, often with good shock effects. The UK National Highways Agency have issued a follow-up interactive DVD on their successful driver information program for motorcycle riders, the "Great Roads Great Rides". Appropriately named "Great Roads Great Rides 2", this interactive DVD-ROM takes you on a motorcycle journey in the UK. You follow a British biker on a journey, filmed by cameras on the motorcycle, helmet, on the road and even a helicopter. The video stops regularly, allowing you to identify clues for reading the road ahead. The DVD is meant to educate you, teaching you how to read the road for dangers. Since motorcyclists are 30% more likely to be seriously injured or killed than our car counterparts, it's obvious that we need to take a lot of information into account when riding our prized possession. Below, you can have a look at the video featuring Glenn Julian as the rider. It's interesting to see and he explains all the points that you should be seeing. The only strange bit is riding on the wrong side of the road.... There are a couple of good documents you can download from their website, regarding checklists and other safety items. The only thing the site does not do, is tell you how to get your hands on the DVD... Great Roads Great Rides 2 (13 minutes) Click here for much more information about this DVD
