You probably all know by now that Greece is in deep financial shit. Their debt is out of this world, and the likes of Goldman and politicians have been milking the country dry for years. Salaries have been slashed, particularly for government employees, pensions cut, investments stopped and taxes (for those few who pay them) raised. Not a colorful situation. In order to cope with rising cost, and lower salaries, the Greek police force is now hiring out their cops to private individuals or companies. So if you are going to the latest "in" spot in town, and want to arrive in style, you can now arrive with a couple of police motorcycle escorts. Flashing lights, sirens; that will get people's attention. For sure it'll get you in the door without having to queue up. The fee are very reasonable, €30 per hour (that $39) for hiring a cop. A motorcycle escort is cheap, $20 per hour, and if you want to play it big, you can hire a police helicopter for €1500 per hour. I'm wondering if they can be hired to escort the transportation of valuable stuff, like nose candy, grass, etc. Or could you just hire them to get to work in time, following the police cop through the throngs of people going to work at high speeds.... Is the Greek army next? Hire a tank for $100/hour. Hire a warship as cruise line for 10,000/day?
