Normally the motorcycles that take part in the famous Dakar rally are for a majority KTM, followed by a sprinkling of Yamaha and BMW off road motorcycles. Already seeing an Aprilia place high in the ranking is an exception. But a Suzuki Hayabusa? That has got to be the weirdest motorcycle to ride in the Dakar. And it is.... since it is a Hayabusa that will take part, but not as a motorcycle. The 200 hp Hayabusa engine is used in a custom made dune buggy, and will be piloted by Jurgen Van Den Goorbergh (the former Dutch MotoGP, Supersport, Enduro, Trial and Supermoto racer) and Kees Koolen (Dakar veteran). Despite the fact that both racers are motorcycle riders, in hart and kidneys, they prefer to race in the Dakar on four wheels, even if the engine is that of a motorcycle.
