Race electric motorcycles are evolving in rapid steps. A few years there were only a few. Now, almost every self-respecting country has at least one. In France, a new electric motorcycle is in the starting blocks, getting ready to compete in electric motorcycle races. The North American manufacturers for years had taken the lead, but slowly the European companies are waking up, and making their own. French company HKER have started testing their electric motorcycle, the Luciole. The Luciole has a brushless engine capable of 25 kW, giving it 35 hp for 145 kgs. With its 6 gears, it has a top speed of 140 kph. Not enough to win a race, but getting there. It's close enough to the Italian e-CRP motorcycles, who ended second in the E Power championship. More tests and development are underway to increase the top speed and time it can run under full power. With electric motorcycles being built in Spain, Italy, France, Germany and even Scandinavia, next years' electric motorcycle races are going to become more and more competitive.
