The famous Le Touquet Enduropale beach enduro is always an event to see the best of the best riding the best off-road motorcycles. Part of the race, and good for €1500 prize money, is the holeshot, which is some 7.5 kms from the start. Usually, the motorcycles that are trying to win the holeshot are specially prepared, high performance, motorcycles, like the BMW 1200 HP2, or KTM 950's, anything with a big engine that can power the rider along the beach at speeds in excess of 200 kph.

But the 2008 edition of the Le Touquet beach enduro saw an unusual motorcycle take part in the holeshot race, AND win. The motorcycle is not originally an off -road one, it's a Honda 900 CBR Fireblade!

Piloted by Mickael Cavalioska, the street motorcycle had been modified to run in the deep sand, capable of 230 kph, 10 kph more than its closest rivals.

So there you go, a Honda CBR900 Fireblade wins the Le Touquet Enduropale holeshot, a first! As for the race, it didn't go further than the 1st lap.

    Honda 4 cylinders

Beleive it or not, in recent years, AMA Pro Hillclimb championships were won by Honda 4 cylinder engines. The same engine was sleeved done to win the smaller class. These are SCREAMER engines, sound like road racers. You'd think high torque, low RPM would work better. 2007 championship was won by "Tiger" of Johnstown, PA, on a Yamaha... twin, I think. The young Honda champ was badly hurt end of 2006.

yeah, but what gets me is that this is really deep sand, even if they do tend to ride at the wet side. The biggest thing the Honda had was acceleration and top speed, there were three bumps, and that's where it lost time...
