When you have a bit of spare time, it's fun to surf through Google Patents Search facility. They have motorcycle patents dating back to 1916! You can see how motorcycles became what they are today. Often these inventions are inventions that will never see the light of day, they remain the glimmer of hope of their inventor, hoping to strike it big. Here's one of them: S. Chilson in 1917, patent # 1279260. The patent is for a twin seat on a motorcycle. Nothing new here, not even for those old days. But in this case, the twin seats aren't one-behind-the-other, but next to each other. In other words, you sit next to each other, on each side of the motorcycle. Imagine if you have to ride alone, or one fat person, and one skinny person.... great fun. Even with two more or less same weight people, how do you ride the motorcycle? Does anyone know if this type of seating arrangement has ever been produced? Click here to access the patent .
