Listening to music while riding your motorcycle, or talking to your pillion (or heaven forbid, on the phone), can be great, but always involves adapting your helmet, wires, connections, etc. A pain in the posterior. But the current extremely successful Kickstarter project from Bragi Open Bragi link in a new window, a German company, called The Dash Open The Dash link in a new window, will put an end to all that.

Bragi Dash

The Dash is a revolutionary wireless In-Ear headphone. No wires, just two individual plugs that you insert in your ear. They even have different sizes available in the package.

The Dash communicates with Bluetooth 4, with for example your smartphone or your pillion, or even your motorcycle riding buddy. But if all you want to do is listen to music, The Dash even has a 4 Gb onboard memory that can hold 1000 songs.

If you need to talk to someone, like your pillion or via the phone, you don't need a microphone; the system uses your ear bone vibrations as microphone, and The Dash even has a built-in microphone that can be used for noise-cancelling functions.

So you don't need to install anything on your helmet or your motorcycle.

But what's more, the unit can monitor some of your body vitals, like heart rate, oxygen saturation, temperature etc. You can even monitor the number of calories you have burnt off while riding your motorcycle. So you can say you are losing weight by riding your motorcycle, a great excuse.

The unit is being sold via a pledge for early birds on Kickstarter for $199 per pair. Multiple colors will be available eventually. The first deliveries will be January 2015.

So far they have already amassed a whooping US$3,000,000 in pledges to develop this nifty gadget.

The only problem I foresee with this unit is that the battery will last only 4 hours listening time, 3 when talking. It takes an hour to fully recharge.

It looks like a real winner, no wires, stereo music, talk wireless to pillion or others, monitor your health, etc etc. You can even use it in a noisy environment to cut down the ambient noise. There are going to be several smartphone apps available, from the manufacturer and third party developers.
