Idea: Keyless Padlock For Your Motorcycle - Noke

I just love the stuff coming out of the crowd-funding site Kickstarter. Here is another gem from Fuz Designs Open Fuz Designs link in a new window and it's called Noke Open Noke link in a new window. Noke is a keyless padlock that you can use to lock up almost anything.

As padlocks go, this one is pretty, almost sleek in design.

Fuz Noke

It looks simple, there are no key holes, just the holes for the padlock itself and a blue LED indicator. The way it works is simple. You will need a smartphone from Apple or Android. Once you have paired the lock with your phone, you are in business.

Lock up your goodies, like your motorcycle (use a chain and the Noke lock), lock it and go about your business. When you arrive at your motorcycle to ride away, just press the shackle. That sends a Bluetooth wireless signal which your phone will pick up. You don't even need to remove the phone for your pocket or backpack. You don't need to have the app running, all that you need to do is ensure that the phone is on.

Fuz Noke

The phone receives the signal from the Noke and automatically replies. The reply will allow the Noke to unlock the padlock. It's really that simple. They even offer a cable and bike mount, but it has been designed for bicycles so this might not work for motorcycles. The Noke padlock's battery will last a year or so, and the device is rainproof.

But I hear you say that you don't always have your phone with you, or often your phone runs out of battery juice. Does this mean you're stuck since there is no key? Nope! The designers have thought of everything.

Simple keying in a code (which you have set yourself) using the padlock's shackle will unlock the lock. No phone required. Just look at the animation below (if you don't have much bandwidth, you'll need to wait until it loads .. it's pretty big).

You can also give other people access to the padlock (they need to have a smartphone of course). You send them a code, and they can access your lock.

No, you don't need to help fund this project (I have, but that's my business) since they are more than fully funded. You can however still get an early bird price for the lock, saving big bucks.

The Kickstarter price is US$59 for one lock (regular price will be US$89). They offer more discounts if you buy more locks.
