When the Horex  was announced in 2010 in Germany, I was a bit sceptical. In the present day fuel and economical crisis, developing a new brand and motorcycle that has an enormous engine, and therefore fuel consumption, was in IMHO the wrong moment. I would have thought that any new manufacturer would go electric, or maybe hydrogen. But in this gutsy move Horex announced their first motorcycle using a 6 cylinder engine with a total of 1200cc.
The 6 cylinders are in V shape, but also inline, making this special design named VR. Their first, and so far only, model is a roadster, the Horex VR6, Roadster. So I decided to pay them a quick visit at the Intermot motorcycle exhibition.
The VR6 Roadster "looks" powerful. It's enormous engine reminds me a bit of the Honda CB1100.
The 6 cylinders engine are mirrored at 15° with a total of 1218cc. The engine delivers a total of 161 hp (118 kW) with a torque of 127 Nm at 6800 rpm. There are three valves per cylinder in a radial configuration.
The 249 kilos dry weight may be on the heavy side, but it'll go fast... 250 kph (limited electronically).
The dashboard is simple and uncluttered. You get all the instruments you need, nothing more, nothing less.
Currently the VR6 Roadster comes in 4 different colors; silver/red and brown seat, black/red and brown seat, or the same color combo with black seat.
Currently the Horex motorcycle is only on sale in the German speaking countries; Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but shortly you'll see them in other countries.
