After a long and hard fought battle in France, it's the turn of the Irish. The Irish government wants all motorcycle riders to wear hi-vis yellow jackets at all times. Starting 2014, they want all bikers to be visible, like it or not. The government says it's because they want to make sure that the SUV driver can clearly see its target reduce motorcycle deaths, but we all know it's so that the governments can clear identify us on the road, so that they can give us tickets. The hi-vis yellow (or orange) jackets have not proven themselves, and at its best, blocks the airflow into the biker's jacket, causing overheating of the body. At least the French government backed down, and now wants motorcycle riders to wear a yellow arm band. Like that will make any difference. That's a fight that is not over either. There are many bikers out there who already wear hi-vis vests, and good for them! But it should be an individual's choice, to a mandate. Why not make all pedestrians wear hi-vis vests? There are a great number of deaths amongst pedestrians each year!!
