It's starting to look like that most countries that have speed radars (which is about every country on the planet, and possibly beyond), are confronted with massive fraud. Either by the authorities themselves, the speed camera operators (not always the Police, sometimes they are private, profit-making companies) or manufacturers. Now, in Italy, the Police have raided the manufacturer of speed radars. According to the Financial and Anti-Fraud Police, their main radar, the Velomatic 512, was being issued the same serial number to each individual photo machine, thereby bypassing the lengthy and expensive calibration and approval processes. The company had received approval for a specific serial number, and then just duplicated the serial number on all subsequent radars, hoping to save time & money. The investigation is still on-going. This right after the red light camera scandal {link}. Maybe it's time to rethink speed cameras and come up with something more fair and trustworthy.
