During a visit by our colleague site, NieuwsMotor from The Netherlands to the KTM factory, they found out some interesting stuff. Planned for the end of 2012, a new two cylinder engine will be made for the SuperDuke and Adventure motorcycles. With a cooperation of third parties, like Porsche and others (ed: presumed Bajaj), the successor for the popular big bikes from KTM will see a bigger engine. KTM had already developed a successor for the 990 Adventure for 2012, but it was rejected by the CEO, Stefan Pierer, since the motorcycle resembled the popular BMW GS too much. The new KTM Adventure will be brought out in different engine configurations, but they did not want to state the engine displacement. They did state that the engine will be modular, probably a 1200, 1000 and a "light" version (probably 700 or 800 cc). The lighter version will be developed with more off-road capabilities, competing with the Triumph and BMW dual purpose bikes. The new SuperDuke will receive a completely new engine, with loads of new electronics, like Traction Control. A new Traction Control would imply a lot more horsepower and torque. Furthermore, the SuperDuke will also receive a single cylinder 700 cc engine in 2012 (for the 2013 model year). Our colleagues at MotorNiews did see the new prototype, but no photos were allowed to be taken.
