Austrian off-road motorcycle manufacturer and multiple Dakar rally winner, KTM , are now going full speed ahead for the new 450cc limit for the Dakar race. They are offering a special competitive rally motorcycle, not a cross motorcycle adapted for rally, but a real rally bike. The 450 KTM Rally motorcycle, specially made for the Dakar race, isn't going to come cheap, but then neither is the race itself. The special Dakar package will set you back ... I hope you're sitting.... €56,000! For that, you get a spanking new race motorcycle, built date will be October 2010, costing €29,300. Add to that €5,000 for a maximum of 2 exchange engines (in case you burn out one or two of them), sponsor painting €1,000 and then of course €14,900 Dakar fees which go to ASO (the Dakar organizers). Mind you, these prices exclude VAT... so you can add those to it, since most of you will not be able to get the VAT back. You'll also need to spring for maintenance, support crew, trucks, etc.... so better add all of that. But I'm sure the KTM will announce shortly an all-inclusive support package. The KTM motorcycle will be ready-to-race, weighing only 150 kgs (with no fuel), a 35 liter gas tank and an extended oil reservoir. This is a from the ground up build, not a revamp of a motocross bike. If you're interested, and have the money lying around, you'd better hurry, since the limit for getting yourself the Dakar special is June 15th.
