The famous, and very tough motorcycle beach race, the Le Touquet Enduropale  (formerly known as Le Touquet Race), have announced the dates of the 2013 edition.
The 3 hour beach race will be held on the weekend of February 2nd (Saturday and Sunday) 2013. The weekend will be full of events, from VIP races, ATV/Quad, youngster and the main event, 1000+ motorcycles racing on a 15km beach circuit.
The race is free for spectators, and you'll always find several 100,000s of them, depending on the weather (February is mid winter in France, so you can expect snow, rain, wind and cold temperatures).
If you have never attended the race, and are in the neighborhood, I highly recommend going. It's an amazing race, since you'll see the professionals competing against Sunday riders, often bikers who have never ridden in deep sand before. So the spectacle is assured.

The start of the race is incredible, since 1000+ motorcycle start at the same time, aiming for the holeshot (rewarded with a nice monetary prize).
If you are into off-road racing as a competitor, it's a race you should try. It's very tough, and very few actually manage to do the 3 hours, but it's an event. The event was created by none other than Thierry Sabine , the man who also invented the Dakar race.
