As motorcycle riders, we know the dangers of potholes. They are as dark as the road surface, and when you ride your motorcycle over one, it's not only unpleasant, but can be dangerous. Your motorcycle can get damaged, as can you. Fixing them takes time, and a lot of money. Often potholes stay for months, some for years. And after the harsh winter we've had, there are a lot of them, so it'll take time before they are all fixed. But there's an interim solution coming up. Two students of the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy, have come up with a brilliant and reasonably easy idea. Their idea consists of having a base layer under the road surface that has a highly visible color. When a pothole appears, the bright color is visible, and at least you can see the pothole quickly, and hopefully avoid it. They are actually testing their idea in the city of Rho (where world's biggest motorcycle exhibition, EICMA, is held ... coincidence?). If it works, we'll hopefully see the type of pothole warning system spread. Obviously, it would be better for them to fix the holes, but at least it gives you a fair warning.
