Spanish Dakar winner Marc Coma Open link in a new window competed in his first ever Baja 500 Open Baja 500 link in a new window, and he finished in 3rd place, not bad for a first time. He raced with two other team members, Mexican Ivan Ramirez and USA Mike Brown.

Ramirez crashed the KTM Open link in a new window motorcycle in the beginning, badly damaging the bike. They had to quickly change the exhaust on the KTM 450 Enduro bike, and then make up for lost time.

Despite the hasty repairs, the motorcycle was not running properly, but eventually they ended in 3rd place. The race was won by the trio of Robby Bell, Steve Hengeveld and David Pearson on a Kawasaki, followed by 2 minutes and 28 seconds by Honda riders Cotton Udall, David Kamo and Timmy Weigand. Coma & Co ended 7 minutes behind the leader.

Marc Coma said "I am very happy with the experience; riding in a team event has been really positive for me. Discovering new things always allows you to improve as a rider and I had a really good team behind me: Both in terms of machinery and personnel. We had problems with the bike due to a crash and couldn’t take any risks after that, because we needed to conserve tyre life and finish the race. In any case, the result is a good one."
