If you're a long distance adventure motorcycle rider, even if your name is not Ewan McGregor or Charlie Boorman, you'll probably have heard of the Michelin Anakee tires. You might actually have a pair...

The Anakee tires are solid all-purpose tires, used for road and (a bit) off-road. They're not motocross/enduro tires, but they'll hold their own on bad road surfaces. You've understood it... Michelin Anakees are popular with RTWRound The World riders.

Well, the French tire company is launching a revamped tire, called Anakee 2. Apart from the very original name, the main area of interest is that the new tires will last a lot longer than its predecessor, typical 29% longer. Apart from lasting longer, they will provide a superior grip on wet roads.

From my own experience, I switched to Anakees since my original tires had major defects on them, and did not offer good grip when the rain Gods struck.

The new Michelin Anakee tires use MotoGP tire technology; a new 100% synthetic silica compound called Michelin Racing Synthetic Elastomers (honest, I did not make that up), mixed with a new 100% synthetic resins (High Tech Synthetic Compound). The whole is called C-RAO (Compunds- Racing Optimisation).

Two sizes are available as of June this year:

Front tire sizes:

110/80 R 19 59H
110/80 R 19 59V

Rear tire sizes:

150/70 R 17 69H
150/70 R 17 69V
