According to French motorcycle site Le Repaire des Motards, Michelin Open link in a new window is ending its portable GPS product line! What started out as a great idea; using it's detailed country knowledge obtained through their extensive maps and reference guides (and the famous Michelin Red Guides), coupling it with small, portable, GPS navigation units seemed like a winner.

In France, the viaMichelin GPS was ranked 2nd in a very competitive market, but the Dutch TomTom Open link in a new window flooded the market with cheap and good GPS units, so Michelin does not see a future in these devices.

Instead, Michelin will continue to build it's impressive website, viaMichelin.com Open link in a new window. Michelin will continue to service the units still under warrantee.

Looks like the GPS market is thinning out....
