RM Auctions are going to have a ball in Monaco. On May 11th, they will be auctioning off the Carlo Saltarelli collection of Ducati motorcycles. Saltarelli was a Ducati motorcycle tester and a big Ducati dealer. His private collection includes many vintage bikes (some 100 bikes), including several Ducati Scramblers , a Ducati 860 GT Polizia (1981) and even a Ducati Gucciolo Moto Giro (1949) and a Ducati 60 (1950) . Going through the on-line catalog is an event on its own, so if you have some time on your hands, head on over. It's the only thing that will not cost you any money. Apart from the Saltarelli collection going under the hammer, Ducati is also bringing in for auction the race bikes used by Casey Stoner, Ducati Desmosedici GP10 « CS1 » (the world championship bike with 4232 km on the counter), and last year's Ducati Desmosedici GP11 « VR2 » of Valentino Rossi (the bike has only 2342 km done). So if you have ever wanted to have a real MotoGP motorcycle, here's your chance. Or one of the many classic Ducati motorcycles. The two MotoGP bikes are expected to fetch some US$400,000-450,000 each, but the vintage collection has some more affordable motorcycles in it. I've seen estimated prices starting at US$1,000. But it's not a free ride to just see this incredible collection. Admission to the viewing, brunch and auction will cost you €100. To register as a bidder, €120 (yes you can bid on the phone). It's an incredible Ducati collection being auctioned off, and imagine having a MotoGP bike in your garage...Great for Ducati lovers, museum or private collectors. Hey Jay Leno, pay attention!
