No, don't panic, the MotoGP race is still on (16-18 May 2008 at Le Mans )! It's the name that is in dispute. The term Grand Prix has been debs'd for quite some time, but it is only this year that those crazy people in their crazy cars have decided that there is only one Grand Prix in France, and that is not a motorcycle one. And this from an organization that promotes a motor "sport" that involves riding around a circuit with cars that rarely pass each other, and when there is a duel between drivers, it's fought in the pits or in front of the press! They've written to the organizers of the MotoGP of France, and told them to stop using the term GP. The organizers have written back stating that a) it's discrimination (nothing new there, we're used to that), since the term Grand Prix exists in at least 10 other instances in France (from dog breeding shows to Othello games), b) the term Moto Grand Prix exists since 1949 and has never been disputed and finally c) the real name of the event is "Alice Grand Prix de Moto France", and that is a trademarked name. So there you car drivers... f-off, leave us alone!
