Looks like electric is going to be the buzz word for 2008. NYPD , the Police department in New York, NY, USA are testing the use of the Vectrix electric scooters for some of their Police officers. No carbon emissions, no noise...New York Police is coming into the 21st century with a bang (of course they can creep up to you without being heard). New York's finest will be testing 4 Vectrix scooters in their 36,000 officers department, trying to cut down on pollution. It's not the first scooter the NYPD are using, they already have 329 Piaggio and 104 Yamaha scoots. The advantage to us bad boys is that the electric charge will only allow for 40 to 60 miles per day, so despite being cheaper to run, and no carbon emissions, they can't got as far as the gas guzzling cousins. Two Vectrix electric scooters are being deployed, the first in the UK Police forces, in a 6 month trial. The Hampshire Police fleet run up 15 million miles per year, and anything to help reduce their carbon emissions is going to be an enormous plus point. Cost is also important to them; it'll cost about 20 pence to charge up the Vectrix, and they have a top speed of 62 mph and a range of 68 miles. Maintenance is quite cheaper than petrol versions.
