The Wild Angels is one of those rare movies in the biker world, that was made with a reasonable budget (for those days), and minor stars (Peter Fonda Open link in a new window -before Easy Rider and Nancy Sinatra Open link in a new window). But like most motorcycle gang movies from the 60's, the plot is paper thin. It's all about riding, drinking, riding, women, riding, more drinking, riding, fighting and some motorcycle riding... The movie plot seems to have been written on the fly, and towards the end, the writers were stoned out of their minds, so the producer stopped the movie... The End.

The movie uses real Hells Angels in the movie as extras, but the Hells Angels sued the producers for $5 Million for defamation. I can see why... I wouldn't want to be part of the Angels after watching this movie.

Plot
: Loser, a member of the Hell's Angels, has his bike stolen by a group of Mexicans. He calls in his fellow member Blues as well as several of the other members to help him get his bike back and beat up the guys who stole it. When they get to where Loser's bike is, a huge mêlée breaks out and several of the guys who stole the bike are beaten to a pulp. However, the police soon arrive and the gang splits. Loser, finding himself without a bike, steals the bike of one of the officers and is chased down and shot. Loser is then taken to the hospital, so he can recover before being prosecuted. The gang then comes and takes him out of the hospital, but in the process they break the bottle of blood that is keeping him alive and one of them attempts to rape a nurse that catches them in the act. But with all the trouble they go through, Loser still winds up dying.

Quotes
: "Where do you think you're going? Anywhere but here, man"

Verdict
: Not bad, but paper thin plot. This movie obviously cost more than others from that era, with names like Fonda and Sinatra, but it still remains a real biker movie, with hard riding, drinking, women and fights. Despite the plot, slow moving scenes and so-so acting, the movie is still watchable.
