I guess we've reached that time of the year that we're going to start seeing the first half year sales results of motorcycles, and with the world wide economic downturn, it's not going to look that good. You'd think that with people not being able to afford to buy a new car, and with high petrol prices, that more motorcycles will be sold. But sadly it's not the case, specially if you consider that most countries offer a "cash-for-clunkers" program, but for cars only, not for bikes. In The Netherlands the trend is confirmed, but at least the motorcycle sales didn't suffer as bad as the others. Overall, 28% less vehicles were sold in the first six months, including cars, trucks and motorcycles. But looking at motorcycles only, they had "only" 15% less sales. So less motorcycles got sold, but at least, bikes are doing better than cars. It's not going to get any better either for a while. Already July is showing a reduction of 22%. You'd expect motorcycle manufacturers to be giving away bikes just to replace inventories ...but alas, it's not the case. I've been wanting to buy a new Honda Goldwing, but the prices have gone up, not down, so forget it.... some manufacturers don't learn until it's too late.
