Those of you who have been following my posts, known that I'd love to have an electric motorcycle. So far, there was really only one that was available for off road use, the Blade {link}. Now, there's an alternative, and it looks really good !! Swiss made Quantya are producing two electric motorcycles, both based on the same technical specifications. One, the Quantya MX is a motocross/freestyle motorcycle, the other, Quantya SM is a SuperMotard version. Both weight about 85 kilos with 18" wheels. The electrical engine generates 18 HP for about 30 minutes. After that, you can completely recharge the battery within 50 minutes, or change batteries within 1 minute. It generates 45 Db noise.... meaning no-one will hear you. The battery life is estimated at 400/450 cycles, i.e., you can recharge it 400 to 450 times before you need to replace it. Since the engines are electrical, there's no gearbox !! Open the throttle and your acceleration is going to be amazing !! So it's not going to wear down quickly, meaning maintenance is low. Just go out and ride. Amazing motorcycle !! I hope we're going to see more and more electrical motorcycles. With the way the price of gas is going nowadays, it's a very good alternative to have your fun on two wheels. It's just that the battery technology hasn't caught up; you can't really go very far in 30 minutes. But for fun on a circuit, you can't beat it !! The motorcycles are now in full production, so you can expect to see them shortly. They've started signing up international distributors. No prices yet, but count on about €5,000 Click here to read more about it (and see loads of photos and videos). (thanks Dan)
