China, particularly their capital Beijing, is rife with electric motorcycles and scooters. Due mostly because of the immense pollution to be found in the city (and an increasing gasoline price), people are flocking towards electric vehicles. Cheap electric bikes and scooters can be found on many corner shops. Most are cheaply made, and will probably last until the next corner.

But one manufacturer seems to have made two electric motorcycles that look serious enough to compete in an European or North American market, particularly when you look at the price.

ElectroForce Motors Open ElectroForce Motors link in a new window (EFM) are based in Beijing and they make two models, with different variants each with 8 or 11 kW.

EFM ElectroForce Tau

I don't have much in the form of photos for the Tau, but ti's a streetfighter-like motorcycle. It has a base version, a "+" version and a "Pro" version to be released shortly.

The + version has a 5.40 kWh removable battery that gives you a top speed of 100 kph and a range of 150 kilometers on a single charge. Charging time is 5 hours for a full charge.

The electrical engine gives 15 horses of power and 70 Nm of torque. The whole bike weighs 150 kilos.

Price: (estimated) US$5,000

EFM ElectroForce Mμ

The Mμ (funny name... sounds like a cow) is a sportsbike-like electric motorcycle.

The Mμ has a 3.90 kWh removable battery with a top speed of 85 kph and a range of 115 kilometers. The engine provides 11 hp of power and a torque of 47 Nm.

Price: (estimated) US$4,200

EFM ElectroForce Mμ

The EFM + version has 5.4 kWh removable battery, top speed of 100 kph and range of 150 kilometers. 15 hp of power and a torque of 70 Nm is provided by the engine.

EFM are working on a Mu Pro version that should be released shortly. This version provides a 5.2 kWh battery (not removable), top speed of 115 kph and a range of 150 kilometers. The engine provides 20 hp of power and a torque of 82 Nm.

The weight of the motorcycles are 140, 150 and 170 respectively.

They also provide a series of options, like heated grips, auxiliary LED lights and fast chargers.

EFM Delta

EFM ElectroForce Delta

From what I could gather, the EFM Delta is a Police motorcycle. Not much of the specs are known or published.

EFM will not be a big competition for the likes of established electric motorcycle manufacturers like Zero or Brammo. Their specs just don't compete. But for the price, it could be a very interesting commute bike for those that don't need high speeds and longer ranges. If you ride country roads and feeder roads into the city, a top speed of around 100 kph is sufficient, and a range of 100-150 kilometers is very decent, particularly when you can remove the battery and charge it in the office.
