A new GPS designed for motorcycles is launched. Made by German Becker , the unit is called Traffic Assist Z 100 Crocodile. The GPS is rugged, with all interaction between GPS and rider via the touchscreen. The rubber coated GPS is water resistant, but more important, the 4.3 inch screen is highly visible, even with a darkened visor, or in glaring sun. The unit has a 2Gbyte internal memory with 42 countries preloaded. The navigation is done via 3D Terrain and 3-D City view (so no flat maps, but you "see" the mountains and buildings). The unit is equipped with 29 text-to-speech languages, so you can follow the navigation instructions. To make matters easier when riding in a city, the unit currently contains 1,000 photorealistic images of landmarks. The unit, according to Becker, has been optimized for motorcycles, specially in the navigation portion. Not much else is known, except the expect price. Count about €300 for the unit. There seems to be no wireless communication, nor a stand-alone PC/Mac application. You can load Points of Interest (like radar positions) via USB. The unit is not yet available, but will be introduced during October this year. When I get more info, I'll let you know. Click here to access their web site (no info on this unit yet)
