In The Netherlands, there's the normal Police, divided into different units, like district, highway or small town Police. They all work for the Minister of Justice. And then there's the Military Police (called "Koninklijke Marechaussee " - named after the French Gendarmerie, which are also Military Police). These boys and girls work for the Ministry of Defense, and have as task keeping the Royal Family safe, keeping the borders closed from undesirables and other defense style work. They have also always worked with the local Police forces, helping them out in anyway they are allowed to. But one thing were never allowed to do:- they were not allowed to ticket you! That right was reserved for the cops. That has now changed. As off next week, every Koninklijke Marechaussee cop is allowed to ticket you. That means there's now suddenly some 5,000 extra cops on the road. So when riding your motorcycle through the Netherlands, beware! There are now more eyes and ears looking out to ticket you.
