The Parisian police department has published the 2009 statistics, and despite a drop in mortality (-13.8%), they have decides to point their grubby little fingers towards motorcycles and other PTWPowered Two Wheel - motorcyles, scooters, mopedss as a bad example.

Of the total of 44 people who have died on the roads of the French capital, 19 were PTWs, representing 43% of all deadly accidents, despite the fact that PTWs only represent 15% of all road traffic.

On its own, it's not an enormous issue if you look at the figures for what they stand. Out of the daily 1.4 million vehicles on the road, 19 motorcycle and scooter riders have died in a year. But has the police looked at the reasons behind the accidents?

No figures have been given, no studies made. The cops and city council are using the raw figures as a way to justify their repression against motorcycles. They plan to continue ticketing motorcycles that split lanes, and they for sure are not going to give motorcycle the safer access of riding in the bus lanes (like London has).

All the authorities are doing is quoting raw stats, and using them as an excuse.

>>>> Well Mr Mayor and Mr Police Chief of Paris, I have a question for you. Would you prefer flying in an airplane with a drunken pilot or a sober one? Because statistics show that 0.003% of all deadly airplane accidents have occurred with a drunken pilot, so why don't you fly with one!

NOTE: Sorry, I couldn't resist putting a "Paris" motorcycle as illustration....
