There's have obviously been thousands of patents filed for motorcycles, probably hundreds of thousands. Many have been real patents, stuff that we use daily on our motorcycles. But some patents are just plain weird, or doh... Google has had for some time a patent search, i.e., you can search for patents filed, and retrieve them electronically. Here are three patents I found that I'd like to share with you: Motorcycle Canteen Back in 1978, inventors William K. Griggs and Harry Holland "invented" a canteen that could be fixed to your handbars. Wow! They invented that??? How original. Now all they need is a long drinking straw, so you can drink while riding... Click here to read the patent Motorcycle Seat Belt How about this.. a motorcycle seat belt, filed in 1976 by Wilfred Marquis. According to the filing "A safety belt device for drivers of high speed unenclosed vehicles that includes upper and lower belt bands with coupling means associated therewith and connecting means for joining the respective belt bands together". How about this part of the description: "g. loop means extending from the free end of each of said shoulder straps, said straps adapted to extend over the shoulder of the wearer of the safety belt with said lower belt band extending through said loop means to firmly secure the safety belt around the wearer" Que??? Oh, you mean a belt.... That make sense. Stay on your motorcycle with your pillion attached to you, even if it crashes ... Click here to read the patent Motorcycle Safety Belt I'd call it a pillion belt, and at least this has some merit. It's a belt you put around you, with a handle in the back so that your pillion can hold it. Interesting for those male riders with a male passenger... it's a macho thing. Problem is that the handle will be low, so you need to put your hands below... not very practical..Filed in 1981 by Albert Jimenez Click here to read the patent You can spend hours reading all these patents....
