Gasoline prices are through the roof, we all know that. The oil barrel will probably never see the double digits again, and according to analysts might even see US$200 per barrel this year (source).
But petrol is not that expensive overall. It's the taxes that make it very expensive. Car and motorcycle owners have always been seen by successive governments as "cash cows"; ready for milking. The petrol tax is just one way (a very big way) of bringing in the money.
Here's a table of the taxes paid in many countries around the world.
American riders can stop complaining about the price they pay at the pump.....
