Cyril Despres Open link in a new window, multiple winner of the Dakar race (including this year's event), is offering a perfect motorcycle racing opportunity for 10 "first timers".

The third FIM Open link in a new window event on the calendar this year, is the Sardegna Rally Race Open link in a new window, held 27 May to June the 1st. As rally events go, this is the easiest one, since you do not require a lot of experience, nor a heavily modified enduro motorcycle. The race is held on the Sardegna island Click for map, so the playground is not that big.

Cyril Despres, a big fan of the race (he won it last year), has put together a package for 10 newbies to the world of rally racing. The 10 racers will share the three mechanics, and their crew chief, Chris Evans. Before the race, they will spend the day going through the paces with Despres. They'll learn how to set up their bikes, navigate, and most importantly, manage their race.

According to Despres: "I first raced the Sardegna Rally Race two years ago and fell in love with the event straightaway. The people are friendly, the scenery is stunning and the tracks are just sensational. In addition it is extremely accessible. You don’t need a specialized rally bike, just a standard enduro with a bigger tank and road book reader, the days aren’t so long, so you don’t have to be super fit, or a top level rider to finish, there’s no GPS or other expensive navigation equipment and at night you get to sleep in a hotel and eat great Italian food. What more could you want! "

On this year's Dakar, Despres did similar with a good friend of his, French Rugby star Christian Califano. Despite being in one of world most difficult races, Despres had time to help and mentor his friend. Califano finished at very last position, but at least he finished the tough event and did not DNFDid Not Finish!!

The ten participants can either enter their own KTM 400, 450 or 530 EXC, or rent or even buy them at a preferential rate. The motorcycle will be transported to the race. You have access to the complete stock of spares for the race.

The price for this all-in package is €3900, which will include the race fee, mechanical assistance, spares, training and hotel and food. That looks like a great way to start your first race, being mentored by none other than Cyril Despres.

For further information contact Chris Evans at chris.evans@sport-adventure.com or by telephone on +33 662 487 190. English shouldn't be a problem....
