There are many kinds of motorcycle races around the world, and many of them deserve a special attention. Motorcycle races like MotoGP, Superbike, Dakar, Nations MX, Romaniacs, and even X-Fighters are all special, often dangerous and very fast.

But one race is anything but fast, or dangerous. It is just "fun". The Red Bull organized and sponsored Red Bull Alpen Brevet is a weekend of racing in the Swiss Alpes on the most common of all PTWPowered Two Wheel - motorcyles, scooters, mopeds, the Moped !

Built in the 70's and 80's, these mopeds (known as Toeffli in Switzerland) were very popular with the hippie community. 616 of these 50cc mopeds gathered last weekend in the Alpes to compete in the 132 kilometer long trip (on a 50cc, that is very long), climbing three passes (Grimsel, Furka and Susten) with accelerating top speeds of 30 kph.

As is often the case in these kind of events, the participants dress up for the part, making the whole event into a real festival atmosphere. As usual in Red Bull events, the race terminated with a kick-ass party. Here are some more photo, courtesy Red Bull Photofiles
