Red Bull Knockout: And The Winner Is...

In Scheveningen, The Netherlands Click for map is another one of those crazy motorcycle beach races Europe is famous for. At the Dutch sea resort town, where during the few summer months Holland has, millions of Dutch and German tourists fight for their little spot on the beach; in the winter it's a dead zone. All beach restaurants are closed, and only the brave visit the resort town.

That is, until last weekend, when the Red Bull Knockout Open link in a new window beach motorcycle enduro came to town. 650 motorcycles start, only a few finish (102 to be exact). With a public counting into the 100,000's, the 650 motorcycle riders, including some of the most famous names in the business, race around in the white sand. Scheveningen is alive during this special weekend.

Experts like David Knight (UK), Marc de Reuver (The Netherlands) and Timotei Potisek (France) were leading the race at one stage or another, when their motorcycles suffered a breakdown and could not finish.

This year, the Belgium national, Steve Ramon (on a Suzuki 450) won the race, while Frenchman Arnaud Demeester (on a Yamaha 450, winner of the Le Touquet Enduropale beach race last year) finished 2nd and also from Belgium, Johan Boonen (KTM SX 450), ended 3rd.

This is the third edition of the Red Bull Knockout beach race, and it looks like we'll be seeing more of them in the future.
