Times are tough, and even the motorcycle industry feels the pain. One indicator is the motorcycle exhibition. A lot of money gets thrown in to these shows, and the bigger the show, the more it costs. The Paris "Mondial du Deux-Roues" has been an once-every-two-years event, alternating with the German Intermot. It has traditionally been a major event in the motorcycle calendar, with many motorcycle manufacturers announcing new models at the show. But over recent events, the Paris Motorcycle Exhibition has been lack-luster. The organization left a lot to be desired, and the manufacturers complained (as did the press). So for 2009, the Mondial du Deux-Roues is changing. They will be using less space, less halls. The event is shorter, and the dates have changed. The public will have their go between Friday 2 October (starting at 17:00) and 8 October. Press and motorcycle professionals will have their days on the 1st and 2nd of October (so 2 days instead of 1). Let's hope they leave more space for the press, and keep the motorcycle professionals at bay during the press conferences.... one of my pet peeves. The main hall (#1) will have the majority of motorcycle manufacturers. The 2nd hall will have all the providers. The 2nd hall is destined for the professionals, however, the public can visit it. But it will only be open between the 2nd and 5th of October. Gone are the secondhand motorcycle sales and accessory sales. Also gone is the Eco-Village. There seems to be little interest in a special area for ecological motorcycles and scooters. Kind of strange if you think about it, in todays financial, oil and climate crisis. The admission price hasn't changed. It remains €12. You'll be able to buy your tickets on the internet. On Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, in Hall 6 you'll find a SuperMotard, quad and a champions' race (but it costs extra). So let's hope that the new formula will bring it more success. It's a lot easier for me to cover the Mondial, and I would not like to see this show relegated to the has-been's. Click here for more information
