I've already mentioned the fab GoGo Gear Open GoGo Gear in a new window armored hoodie before when I discovered it (link Open link in a new window). In fact, I liked the look of the hoodie so much I decided to splurge and buy one.

Ordering from GoGo gear is a pleasure, since it's not just fill in the form and hope it arrives. Arlene at GoGo gear actually looks at the orders to make sure everything is done right, and has no problems contacting you if she has a question, which was the case. Since I was ordering in Europe, and the site is American, clothing measures are different, and it's a good thing she checked the order if not I would have had a hoodie fitted like a tent rather than a proper fitting hoodie.

The biker hoodie is made for motorcycle riders. It has removable armor at the elbows, shoulders and back, and is lined with Kevlar. The Kevlar is important in case you decide to leave your motorcycle expectantly while riding. It greatly reduced the risk of the dreaded road rash.

There are three pockets, two on the outside, which can be closed with a zipper, and one small one on the right inside for sunglasses or small mobile phone.

The hoodie can be obtained in black or red. I got the black one.

Look & Feel

The look & feel of the hoodie when arrived was very good. It feels solid and well made. The inside is red and with the lining, it's quite thick. The production of the hoodie is high-quality, there's no skimping on costs and material.

Fit

When you first put on the hoodie, it's like it's a tad too short, but there's a good reason for this. The hoodie is elastic at the bottom, so when you zip up, the fit is snug. If it's loose, then you'll have a problem when riding your motorcycle since it'll be flapping. Once zipped up, the hoodie sits perfectly.

Temperature

The hoodie is neither too hot or too cold. Obviously you'll not be riding in the winter with it, but it's a great piece of protective clothing for spring and autumn. Just perfect when you don't want to put on a jacket, and great when you've arrived at the destination, because once you're off the bike, you can't tell it's biker clothing. It just looks like a normal hoodie.

Riding

I took the hoodie out for a spin. Temperature over here, despite it being winter was very mild, around 14°C. Even at reasonably high speeds, the hoodie stayed on very well. No flapping or air pockets; just the way it should be. The hood does not fill up with air and drag you down (my fear), so it performed flawlessly.

During the ride, it kept me comfortable.

Have a look at the short video below. It's just me putting on the hoodie, but you get a chance to see the fit. Unfortunately I had a video crew on standby waiting for some proper weather to video the hoodie while riding, but after 3 days, they gave up and went away. The following day, the sun broke out, but no video crew... sorry.

Summary
As protective clothing goes, this is going to be my favorite. It's really perfect since you can take it anywhere. The only thing missing is a left inside pocket big enough to carry my wallet. I highly recommend it.

Cost: US$129 / €98.58 (they ship internationally)
