As we all know by now, motorcycle taxis, despite attempts by car taxi groups and politicians to stop them, are here to stay. Paris now has several motorcycle taxi companies, and they are flourishing. The rates are slightly higher than normal cars, but then you spend less time in traffic, and business folks get to arrive at their destination on time. But what about the riders? What do they earn? In an interview in a leading French newspaper, one such motorcycle taxi rider stated that he earns between €2000 and €2500 net per month (US$3,000 - 3,800). Most of the bikers work "freelance" for the taxi company, ie, a percentage is surrendered to the company to pay for the infrastructure and cost. But the biker needs to buy his/her own equipment, and a Honda Goldwing ain't cheap. But still, that's not a bad monthly salary, considering that it's after taxes. Most motorcycle taxi riders were professional riders before they joined the taxi company. Many are motorcycle police or army, retired (they can retire early), and can do what they love doing, and get paid handsomely. Not bad...no wonder car taxis hate them.
