Car manufacturer JEEP have launched a rugged GPSGlobal Positioning System. Satellite based tracking device, that uses several satellites to position your exact location to within a few yards/meters accuracy., which should go on sale in the US in January 2008. Though meant for cars, a rugged GPS is something that should interest us, since it'll most probably be rainproof, and should withstand the vibrations that motorcycles create. The Jeep GPS, called RT 300 has a 3.5 inch display (the same size as Garmin and TomTom motorcycle GPSs), and touchscreen functionality. Apart from the turn-by-turn navigation, you also get MP3 music, video playback capability and even an eBook reader (the last 2 are a bit useless when riding, but probably great when camping). The unit comes equipped with all USA states preloaded, and with 1 million Points Of Interest (POI). Not much else is known yet, like will it take a 12V lead, mounting possibilities, updating facilities, etc. Expected Retail Price: US$300.
