Dutch GPS manufacturer TomTom Open link in a new window is going to unveil their latest motorcycle-specific GPS in the Dutch motorcycle exhibition in Utrecht at the end of the month. The TomTom Rider GPS has sold well over the years, but until now there has been no updated models. But that is about to change. The TomTom Rider 5 will be launched in the 21st of February, but a German accessories site (Louis.de Open Louis.de link in a new window) has let the cat out of the bag.

The TomTom Rider 5 will be equipped with a 4.3 inch touch screen (previous model had a 3.5 inch screen), so much bigger and more readable than the current model. But the most interesting thing of the new software is that not only can you specify that you want the fastest or most direct road to your destination, but you can actually tell your GPS to take the road with the most curves!

That's a big change over all other motorcycle GPSs, you can now automatically let your GPS route you through twisty-heaven......

Like the previous models, the GPS is rainproof (IPX7), vibration proof and is equipped with Bluetooth, so that if you have a Bluetooth equipped helmet, you can hear the instruction inside your helmet without wires.

The battery will last your 6 hours per charge (2 hours less than current models, but that's probably because of the bigger screen), but you'll be able to hook up the GPS to your motorcycle's 12V system (cable is included).

The dimensions of the new GPS are 13 x 10.1 x 5.3 cms (the old one was 11.3 x 9.6 x 5.3 cm)

There will be two price sets here in Europe. €399 gets your the TomTom Rider 5 with maps for 45 countries and special Points of Interests (POI) for motorcycle riders. €499 gets you the above plus a lifetime of free map updates (4 per year).
