I don't think that a TV series that is based around motorcycles has ever won one of the big awards, like the Oscar , Golden Globes , Emmys or BAFTA (Easy Rider, a movie, did get nominated for the big awards, but that's it). And this year is not going to be an exception. But it should. Sons of Anarchy (SoA) is a TV series that is excellent; it has everything you'd expect in a for-adults TV series - drama, great acting, great scripts, beautiful women, men's men and lots of action. But it has one thing that will eliminate it from any serious awards and recognition. It has motorcycles in it! And yes, SoA did get nominated for an Emmy, but that was it. Nominated. Sopranos took almost every Emmy awarded, in almost every category, but SoA, which IMHO is far better than Sopranos, just gets nominated (and it got nominated for its title music). Motorcycles just doesn't sit well with Hollywood & Co. Motorcycle riders are stereotyped as bad people (just look at SoA, but then Italians aren't all stereotyped as Mafia despite the Sopranos), and motorcycles are often used by bad people to get away in a movie. No, motorcycles in a TV series (or movie) just doesn't cut it, specially if it's a main feature of the TV series. The jury will shy away since they don't want to appear to be offending the public, even if the series is one of the better ones coming out of Hollywood these days. They don't listen to the newspaper and web critics, who love the series. From the San Francisco Chronicle to the New York Post to the Los Angeles Times , they all loved the TV series. Instead awards, like the upcoming Golden Globe, will go to flat TV series, but safe as choices go, to 30 Rock, Mad Men or Dexter. Bad Golden Globe, bad Oscar, bad BAFTA, bad Emmy, bad.....
