One of this year's motorcycle rally races used by many as preparation for the Dakar race, the Egypt Sphinx rally has been cancelled. According to the press release, the September race got dumped due to the world financial crisis (meaning not enough people subscribed to the race) and because the geographical area in which the race was going to be held is still under martial law (in order words, it's not safe enough to race). NPO , the organizers do plan to continue their other races, notably the famous Shamrock Rally in Morocco. For those of you interested in participating in this rally it just opened for registration, click here for more info . The Shamrock has been a springboard for many Dakar participants, since, in the old days, the terrain used was often used by the Dakar itself when it came through Morocco. Oh well, the economical (and security) crisis is still playing havoc with the motorcycle world. Will this ever end?
