Riding your motorcycle in the city when it's really hot can be both heaven and hell. While you are in motion, everything is fine and dandy. But when you are stopped or slowed down, the heat from the sun and your motorcycle's engine can be very oppressive. And it's worse if you are going to work and you are wearing your suit. Imagine arriving at work all sweaty.

Italian Spidi Open Spidi in a new window have got maybe a solution for you to stay cool and still be protected. Their Airtech Armor Open Spidi link in a new window jacket is a meshed jacket, meaning that there is almost no material to prevent air from circulating. The front, sides and rear are almost totally open, apart from a mesh made out of high tenacity fabric. The fabric will not prevent you from getting road rash if you leave your motorcycle at 200 mph, but it will save you from having skin transplants at city speeds.

The jacket has got EN 1621-1 certified armor at the elbows and shoulders, enough to keep you from bruising when you fall of your motorcycle when parking. But don't count too much on the armor for heavy crashes.

For that, they do offer an optional back protector, EN 1621-2 Level 1 and Level 2, and an optional chest and thorax protector, EN 1621-3 certified. Those will get you out of trouble, but they do cost extra. A lot extra.

The jacket has two front pockets and they use Velcro to adjust the sides and arms to make the jacket fit perfectly. The whole thing weighs a paltry 1.30 kilos. The offer a white and a black colored version.

Needless to say, the jacket is not rainproof.

The jacket is nice and cool but but what is hot is the price. It's so high it will make you burn up. US$129. Count twice that if you want more armor.
