According to a survey done by NuStats (commissioned by GPS software producer Navteq), people who use a GPS in their car (or motorcycle) tend to be 12% more fuel efficient. The study concentrated on three groups of drivers in Germany, one group without a GPS, one with a normal GPS and one that included traffic warnings. The study result showed that those using a GPS spent less time driving with a drop of 12% in fuel consumption. Fuel consumption went from 8.3 to 7.3 liters/100 kms. According to NuStats, a reduction of 1553 miles were seen per year/driver, with an average annual saving of US$541 on fuel. So, after reading the press release, I'm ready to throw out my GPS!!!!! Who needs to have shorter riding times. The whole idea is to have fun on the road on your motorcycle, not get there as quickly as possible. If I want to arrive fast, I'll take the train.
