Sometimes when you start reading statistics, you get to see some interesting stuff. I was looking through a series of stats of the sales of motorcycles and scooters during the month of November 2011 in Switzerland, and noticed that electric scooters were in the 9th spot of the top 10 sold categories.
The top 5 of types of motorcycles sold were (the number in brackets show the number of units sold that month):
- Scooters (20756)
- Sport Motorcycles (6144)
- Enduro (4870)
- Chopper (4303)
- Super Sports (2393)
So, electric scooters (1153) are in 9th place, while electric motorcycles (15) are in 11th.
In terms of manufacturers, the top 5 electric scooters manufacturers in Switzerland are;
- Oxygen (618)
- Sonstige (219)
- Segway (74)
- E-Max (60)
- E-Rider (46)
It's surprising that for the country that makes the Quantya electric motorcycle, they don't even appear in the stats.
In case you wondering about motorcycle manufacturers, the top selling brand is Harley-Davidson, followed by Yamaha, BMW, Honda and Kawasaki (you can see the complete list in the "Via:" link below).
I'd venture that by this time next year, electric scooters will have clawed itself to maybe 5th spot, and electric motorcycles will have gone to 10th.
