Although riding motorcycle in European has many pleasurable sides, there are also plenty of areas that are anything but pleasant. Those times when you start considering moving elsewhere are usually, probably more often 'always', the result of politicians forgetting who they work for - us, the tax payer. Politicians usually make laws because of personal reasons, often financial, or because they do not understand and have not take the time to learn about the reasons & consequences.
Switzerland is the latest victim of misguided or ignorant politicians. Switzerland, land of cheese and bankers, do not allow lane-splitting (also called filtering). The motorcycle associations in Switzerland have been calling the government to change these antiquated laws, citing many research that motorcycles will lessen traffic jams. Motorcycles are a solution, not a problem. They called upon the elected few to allow motorcycles to (slowly) filter in between cars, and to be allowed to use bus lanes. It's not an unreasonable request considering the massive traffic jams their cities have.
The country's elite have decided that the unwashed are not able or capable to look out after themselves, and in a 24 against 4 vote, made sure that the Swiss bikers would have to remain in the traffic, adding more vehicles to the growing traffic jams, and thereby growing pollution. Of course, the kings and queens of the Swiss nobility do not wait in traffic, they have a police escort and they drive through town at blazing speeds.
Let them eat cake.
