Woow! Talk about long term traffic predictions. The Dutch have stated that on the 9th of October 2008, there will be NO traffic jams in the fair, but very small, country of the Netherlands! Despite being a small country with an enormous motorway (in Dutch: Snelweg) infrastructure, there are always traffic jams everywhere. On the Thursday of October the 9th, the ANWB (the Dutch equivalent of the RAC or AAA), the Dutch rail (NS) and one of the leading banks, Rabobank, want to prove that it is possible to have a day without traffic jams. They want to plan the traffic flows on that day, promote teleworking, change departure times and get people to use the train. According to the three organizations, if they manage to reduce rush hour traffic by 10%, there should be no traffic jams. Sounds like a good initiative, but it looks to me that they forgot one major element in reducing traffic jams: GET PEOPLE TO USE MOTORCYCLES! That'll solve your traffic jam problems for a long time!
