It's Sinterklaas (Sint Nikolaas) back in my old country, the Netherlands, a time that gifts are exchanged, and pranks are played. It's a typical Dutch happening, with, like at Christmas, families gather and exchange, often funny, gifts. Poems are read, and Sinterklaas, a "wise" old man who lives in Spain and is surrounded by black (Moors) helpers, gives good children the gifts, and bad children are taken away in their big bags. Normally, Sinterklaas comes riding into town on a big white stallion, but he has been spotted on a motorcycle once or twice. So to my Dutch friends and families, have fun, and think of me with no Dutch goodies....and to the others, just think, the Dutch have Sinterklaas, and then Christmas. It's a bonus month!
