Sometimes you got to wonder about the sincerity of motorcycle associations, especially the official ones. The Dutch motorcycle association, KNMV (like the USA's AMA) is there to promote, help and organize motorcycles in The Netherlands. They are a commercial organization, meaning you need to pay money to become a member. Fair enough, so far. Last week, the KNMV launched a smartphone app (iPhone and Android) that shows you the weather in The Netherlands, but the weather show n is specifically for motorcycle riders. It will not only show you the weather, wind, wind direction and predicted rain, but will also show you a number indicating the "rating" for riding motorcycles; a number from 1 to 10 (1 meaning do not go out on your motorcycle, to 10, meaning excellent weather). It will also give you a 5 day forecast. The app is free! So far so good. But..... it will only work if you are a member of their organization, since you will need to enter your membership number to make the app work. That, IMHO, is unacceptable. Since it does mean that non-members can go to hell. If an organization that is "the" organization, recognized by the government, that looks after bikers, something like this should be open to all. Shame...
