Like their English counterparts, the Dutch Government has said "enough is enough". Why would Dutch motorcycle riders have all the fun riding their motorcycles on our expensive roads, while we, the politicians, have to slave away trying to fill our pockets with money from the tax payers? It's not fair, the bikers will need to pay the price. So, starting next year, motorcycles will be taxed more, at higher rates, then their car counterparts. It doesn't matter that cars pollute more, take up more space. It's got to do with the fact that bikers enjoy what they are doing, so they'll need to pay the piper (BTW, this is sarcasm, not what was reported). The Dutch government is fed up having to clean up the mess bikers create when they have accidents. Think of the roads that need to be repaired, and the blood steamed off. Starting in 2009, the bigger the engine, the more road tax you'll be paying. But... in order to make things more acceptable for Dutch bikers, if you go and buy an electric motorcycle (which are 2-3 more expensive), you'll not pay the road tax, nor will you pay, what is called, a "luxury tax". Yes, you've read it right, motorcycle are considered a luxury. It is announced that this road tax is going to increase dramatically every year. So 2010 will be more expensive, etc. Again, politicians have been caught smoking some very heavy shit.... When will they ever learn?
