Wearing special clothes for riding motorcycle is a smart thing to do; Remember ATGATTAll The Gear, All The Time - meaning you always wear all your safety gear. is important. But often we need to jump on our bikes to get a loaf of bread or something, and to change into your leathers is a hassle. So you go out in your jeans, and that is when a lot of the problems arise; statistically, that is when you are going to crash.

Severe Road Rash

Or you can't be bothered wearing special leathers, you prefer to ride with jeans. But normal jeans aren't safe for motorcycle riding. If you fall off your bike at speeds above 10 mph, you are going to have road rash. Ride your bike a little faster and you are going to need skin graft.

But motorcycle jeans aren't like you favorite Levis 501 jeans, or whatever jeans you prefer. Many of us have preferred jeans, and motorcycle jeans aren't as cool as yours, right?

Fear not! A Finnish company called Ruste Protection Open Ruste Protection link in a new window is here to help. You take your favorite jeans, send it to them, and they make it motorcycle safe!! They place Kevlar protection inside the jeans. The Kevlar used is lightweight and flexible. In between the Kevlar and the jeans they place Coolmax, a fabric that keeps you cool and dry.

They also place pockets for knee and hip protection so you can put in your favorite armor. Or you can let them place some ubercool D3O Open link in a new window protection pads.

Have a look at the video below. It's amazing, since you'll see them put a big industrial sanding machine to the jeans, with the person still inside the jeans!! Crazy!

The jeans tailoring will cost you €129 (US$177) without the armor (armor are optional). Shipping is done via DHL. You don't even need a box, DHL will come to your house with a box, you put your jeans in them, DHL take it with them, send it to Ruste and a few weeks later, DHL bring you your new motorcycle jeans.

Oh, and BTW, if you prefer some other trousers instead of jeans, that works as well. I'm thinking about sending in my smoking....
